The mounting height of a wall light is of course something you choose yourself, and often depends on your personal taste or the application. But usually a mounting height of 1.60 to 1.70 m is taken as the standard. You should install a wall light around eye level, this avoids glare because viewing right into the light source is not possible.
This of course applies to up-and-down or up/down lighters, wall lights with indirect light. A small LED spotlight in the hallway or above the stairs should obviously be installed at a lower height. They are placed for orientation, to guide your steps at night.
Down lighting wall lights that are mounted too high can be experienced as irritating because of glare. The same applies for uplighters that are mounted too low.
Tip: with a new built house it’s important to take into account the floor structure. If for example 10 cm of isolation and 8 cm screed is still required on top of your concrete slab, you should take a height of 1.78 to 1.88 m.
